Anime Movies Setting Drafts

ここに掲載したのは、物語の要所要所で挿入されるアニ
メーションムービー用の設定画だ。アニメ用の設定はキャ
ラクターデザインの凪良氏ではなく、凪良氏のデザインを
活かして作画監督の志田氏がリファインしている。

These are the setting drafts that were used for making the anime movies that punctuate each one of the most important parts of the story. These drafts weren't made by the character designer Nagi Ryou, and instead, the supervisor for this, Mr. Juda, took Nagi Ryou's designs, and refined them the best he could.

Animation Part Director's Voice

アニメーションパートの監督をさせていただいた高津です。ディレク
ターの土屋さんとは10年近く仕事させて頂いているのですが、作品を
重ねて行く度に広がっていく壮大さ(と言うか上がっていく難易度)に
なんとかついて行こうと必死でした。打ち合わせの時に熱く語る、土
屋さんのアタマから次々と溢れ出してくるモノを少しでも受け止めて、
その一部でもアニメーションとして表現出来ていると良いのですが。

I'm Takatsu, who was tasked with the supervision of the animated movies. While I have worked alongside Director Tsuchiya-san for around ten years, the amount of work I have gotten has enlarged so much (not mention gotten more difficult), that I frequently thought that I'd die from it. While we had some heated discussions during our business meetings, I have received some of the overflowing creativity that came out from Tsuchiya-san's head, and I'm glad I could depict even just a part of it in these animations.

He initiated the creative brand [CAIC∞] within Point Pictures Inc., and while he has mainly supervised the creation of the opening movies for various games, he has also supervised the drawing of illustrations, and has also worked as a character designer and illustrator.

サキのフリプスフィアで登場す
る木馬は、高津氏が実際に制作し
たもの。CGでも写真でもなく、
この映像のためだけに、オリジナ
ルで手作りされたものなのだ。

The wooden horse that appears during Saki's Flipsphere is actually something that Mr. Takatsu made himself. It actually isn't made from CG, and was an original handcraft that was made specifically for this movie.

Compilation of the Movie Storyboards

ムービーの制作時は、このような絵コンテが用意される。
本書でじゃ各種ムービーのうち、アニメが挿入される7本
のムービーの絵コンテを掲載。コンテ絵や細かく書き込
まれた指示などは、すべてアニメ監督の高津氏のものだ。

Storyboards like these were used during the creation of the movies. Here, we have published the seven anime insert movies that appear during the game. The storyboards themselves and the detailed instructions written in them were all made by the animation supervisor, Mr. Takatsu.

サキの紙芝居

Saki's Picture Story

サキのエンディングで、スタッフロールとともに流れる紙
芝居。味のあるイラストとほのぼのストーリーの作者は、
もちろん絵・文ともにサキだ。ここでは、その原画と全文
を掲載したほか、未採用となった準備稿も公開!

During Saki's ending, you can see a picture story playing alongside the credits. The peculiar taste of the pictures and the heartwarming story are due to being made by Saki herself, of course. Here, we have published all of the pictures and lines from the story, and we also have unveiled to the public a little supplementary script that never got used in the game!

Note: All of the story was originally translated by Defade.

A demon king lived in a castle on the outskirts of a village. The villagers were afraid of the demon king. The demon king's presence instilled such fear within them that they couldn't cultivate their crop, and spent every day with empty stomachs.

On a certain day, a youngster in the village volunteered to slay the demon king. The villagers were overjoyed, and praised the youngster as a hero. The youngster's sense of justice was stronger than most people's, and in hopes of defeating the demon king He refined his sword skills every day.

The hero summoned up his courage, and headed towards the demon king's castle.

Then, he finally reached the throne room of the demon king. There sat the demon king. "Come, let us fight, demon king!!" said the brave hero...

However, the demon king threw one look at the hero, and timidly hid behind her chair. The demon king said "I'll give you all the food you want, so please don't take my life!" The hero was shocked.

The demon king took the hero into her garden. Many seedlings were planted there. "Just by living, I bring misfortune to everyone. If I cease to exist, then everyone can live happily ever after. But even if I want to die, I'm too scared to. I thought that I could at least prevent them from suffering due to hunger, so I planted some watermelons."

Thereafter, the hero and the demon king tended to the watermelons together. The demon king seemed to be very happy. Which was expected, really, since it was the first time that she enjoyed farming with another.

True to their efforts, many big watermelons soon sprung up The demon king and the hero were very happy. And then the hero took the watermelons to the village for everyone to eat.

The hero returned to the village, and told the villagers about the demon king. But the villagers would not believe him, no matter how hard he tried persuading them. At the end of the day, they thought that the hero betrayed them for the demon king And threw stones at him, chasing him out of the village. The watermelons he made just for them with so much effort were smashed.

The hero returned to the demon king's side and cried in regret. The demon king comforted him. And together, they ate the watermelons. The hero was shocked at how good they tasted. He expressed his thoughts to the demon king, and made the demon king happy.

The next day, the demon king was nowhere to be found as the hero woke up. In the garden, the harvested watermelons were piled up like mountains, and a letter was left behind. "I'm going on a little trip. I'll leave these watermelons and this castle to you, Mr. hero. Please tell the villagers that you've defeated the demon king and taken these watermelon fields."

The hero stared at the mountain of watermelons, and cried.

Mr. hero, when you helped me plant these watermelons For the first time, I thought it was okay for me to be alive. I felt like you were telling me that.

Because you were always by my side to cheer me on, I was able to make so many watermelons I was able to find hope in this world. So, thank you.

I don't feel lonely anymore. I'm very content. You saved me, my hero Even if we can't see each other anymore, I'll always be with you.

ーーーあるところに とてもとこもつよい魔王が住んでいました。
魔王はとても村人を苦しめていました。
ある日、勇者がたちあがり、魔王に立ち向かうために魔王城へ出掛け
ました!
そして勇者は、魔王と一緒に幸せにくらしましたとさ。
めでたしめでたし!

アオト「って、全然めでたくねーー!魔王とくっついてどうするんだよ。っ
   てか、村人はどうなっちゃうんだよ!」
サキ「魔王はとてもいい人だったんです!行間から察してくださいっ」
アオト「わかんね一よ!!!」
サキ「だから勇者は魔王と結婚したんです!」
アオト「ウホッウホッしちまってるじゃねーか!」
サキ「ちがいますよ一っ!魔王は女の子なんです!ほら、この絵を
   ちゃんと見てください!髪の毛長いですよっ!」
アオト「そんなところに伏線張るなよ!!魔王っていったら普通男だろ!」
サキ 「う一っ それじゃ、もうちょっとわかりやすくして、『魔王女様と
   幸せに暮らしましたとさ。』でどうですかっ!?」
アオト「マオージョ様……!!! とにかく、その話を子供達に聞かせる
   のはどうかと思うぞ」
サキ 「えっと、もう何度もよみきかせしてる話ですよ!」
アオト「ほ、本当かよ …。可愛そうな園児達よ」
サキ「可愛そうくないですっ!みんなとても喜んでくれてますっ!毎
   回すごい大反響なんですから! 『え一っ!!』『そうきたか!!』『ど
   くそうてき!』『勇者は○モですかっ?』『むらびとしんでます?』
   『挙式代いくら?』『今年の文学賞総なめの予感!』って声があ
   がってますよっ!」
アオト「情操教育に良くないな…とにかく、もっとわかりやすくしないと、
   みんなとてつもない誤解をしてるじゃねえか」
サキ「そうですか …。ごめんなさい……  」

サキ「アオトさん!サキのお話聞いて下さいっ!あれからアオトさ
   んの意見を参考に、色々改良を重ねてみましたっ!」
アオト「あ、ああ、そうなのか」

ーーあるところに、とてもとても素敵で可憐な魔王が住んでいました

アオト「既にツッコミ所満載なんですが!!」

ーー広い広い雲の海。そのなかに一本の棒が立っています。

アオト「!?(どうやって!?)」

ーー棒さんはずっと独りぼっち。とっても寂しい思いをしてきました。
でもある日、棒さんはついに独りぼっちではなくなりました。
クジールのジョージョが棒の近くを通りかかったのです!
クジールは棒に話しかけました。
「棒さん、棒さん、こんな所でずっと一人でいて、寂しくないのかジョ?」
「…」
棒さんは返事をしません。ガン無視です。
ジョージョほ怒ってどこかへ行ってしまいました。
それからしばらくした日のこと、今度はアホウドリのカッコルが飛んでき
ました。
「棒さん、棒さん、何んでこんな所で一人なのアホ?ここの下に宝でも
有るのアホ?」
「…」
やっぱり棒さんは返事をしません。ガン無視です。
コッカルは疲れてパタパタと飛んでいってしまいました。
棒はまたひとりぼっちになってしまいました。
でも、棒は強い子。寂しくても泣きません。
それから数年が経ちました。
あれからも棒はずっと独りぼっち。見渡す限りの雲の海に、唯一人で独
りぼっち。
そんな棒に、久し振りに嬉しい便りが届きました。
数年ぶりのお客です! 今度は、飛行機に乗った女の子でした。
女の子は器用に棒の横に止まると、嬉しそうに棒に話しかけました。
「棒さん!棒さん!君はすごい棒さんだね!」
君はずっとずっと、長い間、この広い雲海の道標として一人で頑張っ
ているだね。
でも、もう君はよく頭張ったよ。もう、休んでいいんだよ?」
「…」
棒さんは返事をしません。ガン無視です。
女の子はつまらなくなって、飛行機で雲の彼方へ飛んでいってしまいま
した。
おしまい。

アオト「…… …! … … …?…」
サキ「どうでしたか?」
アオト「…引っ張るだけ引っ張って、結局棒は喋らないじゃないかよ…」
サキ「えっ!?だって、棒は喋れませんよ。お口ありませんから」
アオト「はぁ!?そういうものなの!? だって、みんな普通に話しか
    けてるじゃんか!そういう世界設定じゃないの? 棒が口を聞
    かないのは、実はこれこれこういう理由で…とか、何もないの
    か!?」
サキ「ありますよっ!棒は喋れないのにみんな棒が喋ると思っている
    ところが、このお話の面白い所なんです!このシュールさが面
    白くありませんかっ!?」
アオト「シュールさ…確かにシュールすぎる話だよ。ってか、せめてオ
チぐらいつけてくれよ……」

ーーむかしむかしあるところに、力自慢のおばあさんと、かわいいお
じいさんがすんでいました。
力自慢のおばあさんはたいそう大きな身体をしていて、毎日の食費に
困っておったそうじゃ。
ある日、いつも通りおばあさが山へ木を切りに出掛けようとしました。
するとどうでしょう!なんと、山の上の方で、眩い光が燦めいている
ではありませんか!
「なんじゃありゃー!じいさん、ちょっと行ってくるだ!」
「気をつけてにゃ、ばあさんや」
おばあさんは得体の知れないを前に、すこしだけドキドキしながら出掛
けたのでした。
不安げおばあさんを見送るおじいさん。しかし、こんな事をしていても
仕方ありません。
心配ではありましたが、おじいさんはいつもどおり川へ洗濯に向かいま
した。
その途中の事でした。おじいさんの草履の鼻緒が切れてしまったのです!
「これは不吉にゃ…」
おばあさんを心配しながらお爺さんは川へ向かいます。
無事川へ着いて、洗濯を始めるおじいさん.
しばらくすると、上流からどんぶらこ、どんぶらこ、と、大きなカリカリ
の実がながれてきます。
お爺さんは、もうびっくり!こんな大きなカりカリの実は、見たことあ
りません。
神の思し召しか悪魔の罠か、とにかくそのカリカリの実を
おじいさんは恐る恐る川からひきあげて、家に持って帰る事にしました。
そしてその夜…。
おじいさんとおばあさんは、二人でカリカリの実を美味しく頂きました。
ごちそうさまっ!

アオト「ごちそうさまっ!じゃねぇぇぇぇぇぇぇーーーーー!!!!」
サキ「えええっ!!ど、どうしてですかっ!?ちゃんとオチをつけまし
   たよ!?」
アオト「話にちりばめた沢山の伏線を1つたりとも回収してないじゃね
   えかよっ!!!」
サキ「でもでも、物語にリアリティを追求すると、どうしてもこうなっ
てしまいますっ!」
アオト「もう突っ込む気力も無くなったよ… 」
サキ「アオトさんはもう少し御本を読んで、文学の何たるかを知った
   方がいいと思いますっ!」
アオト「絵本で文学を求められても…っていうか、そもそもコレって文
   学なのか…!? はぁぁぁ…」

--Once upon a time, there lived an incredibly strong Overlord.
This Overlord caused a lot of suffering to the villagers,
so a certain day, a Hero stood up against the Overlord, and headed off to the Overlord's Castle to fight against it!
Then, the Hero and the Overlord lived happily forever.
And everyone lived happily forever after!

Aoto: "What? That isn't a way to end a story! Why did the Hero go to live with the Overlord!? And what happened to the villagers!?"
Saki: "The Overlord was a very nice person! Please read between the lines"
Aoto: "I don't understand it!!!"
Saki: "That's because the Overlord and the Hero got married!"
Aoto: "And wouldn't that make them both gays!?"
Saki: "Of course not! The Overlord is a girl! Look closely at this picture! She has a very long hair!"
Aoto: "But you didn't show it in the story!! By calling her the Overlord, anyone would normally think that she's a man!"
Saki: "Hmm, then how about changing the finale to [The Overlady and the Hero lived happily forever], then, to make it easier to understand!?"
Aoto: "The Overlady....!!! Anyway, I don't really think that stories like these should be told to children"
Saki: "Huh? But I've told them many stories like this!"
Aoto: "R-really...? I'm feel sorry for them"
Saki: "Please, don't say that! They always are very happy to listen to them! They have large reactions to them all the time! They say things like [Huh!?], [It was like that!?], [That was great!] [Was the Hero a X?], [How much did the wedding cost?], [Did the villagers die?], [I think this will win a prize!]!"
Aoto: "They don't really have good taste... Anyway, if you don't make it easier to understand, everyone will get very wrong ideas about it"
Saki: "Really...? I'm sorry..."

Saki: "Aoto! Please listen to my story! I've tried making several improvements to it since I heard your opinions!"
Aoto: "O-ok, let's hear it"

Once upon a time, there lived an incredibly cute Overlord.

Aoto: "I'll have to be the straight man already!?"


--There was a wide, wide sea of clouds. And within it, a large stick stood.

Aoto "!? (How did this happen!?)"

The stick was always alone, and always felt very sad.
However, a certain day, the stick finally had company.
A bird passed near it!
The bird then talked to it.
"Oh stick, oh stick, don't you feel lonely from always being alone in a place like this?"
"..."
The stick didn't reply back, as if it was ignoring him.
The bird got angry, and flew away.
Then, some days later, an albatross flew near it.
"Oh stick, oh stick, why are you all alone in a place like this? Don't you know that there are treasures below this place?"
"..."
Once again, the stick didn't reply back, as if it was ignoring him.
The albatross got tired of this, and flapped his wings to continue flying away.
The stick was all alone once again.
However, the stick was a very strong child. He would never cry no matter how lonely he felt.
Then, many years passed.
From that day on, the stick was completely alone. As far as it could be seen in the sea of clouds, he was the only thing in it.
Then, some happy news reached the stick for the first time in many years.
He had a visitor! This time, it was a girl flying in an airship.
The girl skillfully stopped near the stick, and happily talked to him.
"Stick, stick! You're an incredibly stick, don't you? You have always, always, for a very long time, done your best serving as guidepost all alone in this sea of clouds, right?
But you have done enough already. Wouldn't you want to rest a little?"
The stick didn't reply back, as if it was ignoring her.
The girl got bored of this, and riding her airship, she flew beyond the sea of clouds.
The end.

Aoto: "...! ...?"
Saki: "What do you think?"
Aoto: "It was somewhat engrossing, but the stick never got to talk after all..."
Saki: "Huh!? But of course he wouldn't talk. He didn't have a mouth"
Aoto: "Huh!? Really!? But why was everyone talking to it as normal!? That setting doesn't make sense! If anyone doesn't ask if the stick has a mouth, why didn't you explain it by saying it was because of this, and that... otherwise, what point does this have!?"
Saki: "Of course it has! That the stick doesn't talk while everyone else thinks it does is the most interesting point of this story! Don't you think that something as surrealistic as this makes it interesting!?"
Aoto: "Surrealistic... Well, it really was too surrealistic for me. At the least come up with a punchline for it..."


--A long time ago, there lived an old woman that boasted about her strength, and a cute old man.
The old woman had such a large body, that both of them always were troubled by how much she ate everyday.
A certain day, the old woman went to the mountains to cut down some trees for lumber.
And how she would do it? Because there was an incredibly dazzling light on the top of the mountain!
"That isn't a problem! Grandpa, I'll be going out for a while!"
"Take care, Grandma"
The old woman was going to face something unfamiliar, and a little excited, she departed.
The old man saw the anxious old woman off. However, there was nothing that could be done about it.
While he was worried, the old man headed to the river to do laundry, as he always did.
Then, on the road there, that happened. The strings of the old man's sandals broke!
"This is a sign of bad luck..."
While he worried about the old woman, the old man headed to the river.
He arrived there without any problems, and began doing the laundry.
And soon after, tumbling from the river's head, several large crispy fruits began flowing in.
The old man was very surprised! He had never seen crispy fruits as large as these.
Wether it was a blessing from the Gods or a trap of the Devil, these were still crispy fruits.
Timidly, the old man retreated from the river, and carried some of these fruits back home.
Then, that night...
Both the old man and the old woman had a feast of tasty crispy fruits.
Bon appetit!

Aoto "You can't end an story with "Bon appetit!"!!!!"
Saki "Huh!? B-but why!? Didn't you tell me I needed a punchline for the story!?"
Aoto "You put so much foreshadowing and plot threads in there, but you didn't follow any of them!!!"
Saki "But I intended to make the story more realistic, and it ended being like this because of that!"
Aoto "I don't even have any energy to reply back to that anymore..."
Saki "It'd be much better if you read some books, Aoto. That way, you would learn many more things about literature!"
Aoto "As if picture books served to learn more things... and in the first place, can you really call these stories "literature"!? *sigh*..."

※FLIP-GRAVIEとは?
FLIP-SPHERE+(GRAVURE+MOVIE)という単語を混ぜ合わせた造語タイトルで、
読み方はフリップ・グラヴィエ、またはフリップ・グラビア。

We've made an original gravure-styled movie with the style of the Flipspheres, and its name is FLIP-GRAVIE! It has all of the ten personae, plus an α-bewitching movie!

*What's FLIP-GRAVIE? An invented word title made up from mixing the words Flipshere + (Gravure + Movie).

PURGE COLLECTION

魅惑のパージムービから、特にレアな4段フルパージを全キャラク
ター分収録。まさか……あの人までパージするなんて……ッ!
※"あの人"は設定上パージしません。あくまで本DVD用のおまけ映像です。

This records all of the alluring Purge Movies present in the game, including particularly the tetra-purge sequences for all the characters. And... no way, even THAT person is going to Purge too...!?

*From the setting standpoint, "THAT person" doesn't Purge. It's merely a bonus movie that was only made for the DVD included with the book.

*The Flipsphere movies were also made by the person in charge of the anime movies, Yukio Takatsu. There will also be comparisons between the final form of said movies, and their initial drafts, like shown in the screenshot on the right.

すね!(違う)思えば第一塔は氷の瞳のモデリングが最初の仕事だった記
憶があります。懐かしい! 次はアルトネリコ・ゼロですね。きっと700年前
のアルシエルを舞台にオボンヌー族の起源をめぐり、愛と裏切りの陰謀渦
巻く戦乱の世を駆け抜けるタクティカ…あ、すいません嫁があげぱんを要求
たのでモーニン(・ω・)それじゃまたどこかで!

Congratulations for concluding the Ar tonelico series! Finally this book is on sale! (wrong). Now I think so, the first work I recall having done for the series was the modeling for the First Tower's Frozen Eye. How nostalgic! Next time, we'll be making Ar tonelico Zero. It'll be set on the Ar Ciel from 700 years ago, showing the rise of the Funbun Tribe, and it'll be a tactical game that will make you go through a war filled with conspiracies of love and betraya... Ah, sorry! My wife has woken up saying "Mornin'!" and asking me for agepan (・ω・). Ok then, see you all later!

81年生まれた。05年に(株)FlightUNITに入社後、
『アルトネリコ』他、多くのキャラクターゲームグ
ラフィックを手掛けるデザイナー。『シァイニング
フォース・イクサ』(セガ)のムービーなど、イラ
スタッチの3DCGを得意とし、ディレクター、イラス
トトレーターとしても活動中。著書に「ローポリ・スー
パーテクニック」(ソフトバンククリエイテイブ刊)。

Was born in 1981. On 2005, he began working for Flight Unit, and aside of [Ar tonelico], he's also a designer that has made the graphic design for several characters. His high point was working on the movies, illustrations and 3D CGs for games like [Shining Force EXA] (from Sega), and he has also worked as a director and illustrator. He has also written a book titled [Low-Poly Super Techniques] (published by Softbank Creative).
